If you aren't currently in a position to make a donation or set up a regular standing order, you can still make a very valuable contribution to the work of CARELOCAL by leaving a legacy in your will.
There are three different types of gifts that are most commonly given to charities through wills. We recommend you discuss each with your solicitor to find out which suits you best.
If you would like to leave a gift from the remains of your estate after you have taken care of your family, friends and loved ones, you can bequeath the residue or part of the residue of your estate.
You may decide to leave a specific sum of money to the charity of your choice, the sum of which is determined when you make your will.
You can also bequeath a particular item of value, for example jewellery, shares or property.
If you already have a will, it is easy to make a change to it and include a charity of your choice. This is called a codicil and can be drawn up easily by your solicitor.

Below is some sample wording to insert in your will:
If you wish to leave a specific sum of money (pecuniary legacy)
'I give, devise and bequeath to CARELOCAL of 29/30 Dame Street, Dublin 2 the sum of € _________ to be applied by it for any of its charitable objects as it, at its absolute discretion, may decide.'
If you wish to leave a share of your total estate (residual legacy)
'I give, devise and bequeath all the rest, residue and remainder of my property of every kind and description to CARELOCAL of 29/30 Dame Street, Dublin 2 to be applied by it for any of its charitable objects as it, at its absolute discretion, may decide.'
Or
'I give, devise and bequeath one quarter (for example) of my property of every kind and description to CARELOCAL of 29/30 Dame Street, Dublin 2 to be applied by it for any of its charitable objects as it, at its absolute discretion, may decide.'
Our address is CARELOCAL, 29/30 Dame Street, Dublin 2. Our registered charity number is CHY 08630.
It is not necessary to let us know in advance of your intention to leave CARELOCAL a legacy. However, knowing this does allow us to express our gratitude to you during your lifetime - and it is also encouraging for us. If you would like to let us know, it would be very helpful for us to be aware of your intentions. You can contact Linda on 01 6128000 or info@carelocal.com
Keep it safe. Ideally, leave it with your solicitor and keep a copy for yourself. Also let your executors or immediate family know where they can find it.
Keep it up to date. When circumstances in your life change, such as family births or deaths, it is important to review your will and make any changes necessary. It is also advisable to review your will every few years as the value of your assets may change.
Changing your will. If you wish to make a change to an existing will, you can do this with a codicil. A codicil is a formal supplement to your will and must conform to the same requirements for executing a will (must be written and signed by you and your witnesses). Make sure to store your codicil with your will.
CARELOCAL is authorised as an eligible charity for the purpose of Sec. 486A of the Taxes Consolidation Act 1997, so donations of over €250 p.a. are subject to tax relief for the donor. More information on this can be found at http://www.revenue.ie/leaflets/chy2.pdf, or on Information Leaflet CHY2 from the Revenue Commissioners.
A special thank you to the Community Foundation. Through their generosity, Care Local and our community collaborators in the Stoneybatter area, developed an Older Men’s Committee, focusing on the needs of older, isolated men. The Older Men’s Drop-in Centre resulted from the input and leadership of these men.
With the funding received from the Dublin Bus Community Programme, Care Local, in partnership with DIT and the Dockland Senior Forum, will produce a video focused on improving the attitudes between young and old.
